Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. (Psalm 146:3, 5 NIV)
The Psalmist writes about whom we put our trust. We can put our trust in powerful people like influential political leaders or we can put our trust in the LORD. The rest of Psalm 146 describes the LORD and why he's worthy to put our trust in.
But our tendency is to put our trust in what and who we can see. We see it every presidential campaign in America. People get behind a candidate that they believe will be worthy of their service, their support and their hope. But they--we-- often disregard or forget the LORD our Creator, Provider and Helper.
I wish I could say I'm not tempted to do the same--but I am. But the Psalmist reminds me here, "Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save." Because they can't.
What is God saying to you right now?
What are you going to do about it?
