Growing Stronger while you're Resting

I was reading a post about marathon training the other day. The runner/writer was making the point that you don't grow stronger when you run--you grow stronger when you rest. Your muscles are tearing and breaking down while you run and stretch and push/punish them during training. But when you rest, they heal, grow stronger in anticipation of more punishment.

The same could be said of our spiritual training to remain in Christ. We train when we read and pray through the word. But we also are training as we go through trials and respond by faith. This can make us weaker as we face the challenges of each day. Trials can be draining, frustrating and discouraging. However, when we rest, we refuel and heal up. We rest by getting before God, praying and letting him restore and heal us…just like when resting from run training.
