Y Wii & Y I care

The Wii is one of the best selling game consoles in the past 2 years. Nintendo's console out-sold Xbox and PS3 combined in 2007.

When the name "Wii" was announced, it was ridiculed by many as being too juvenile prompting the company to share repeatedly why they chose this particular name. One of their explanations was Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wikipedia (emphasis mine)

The other thing I learned about this word is why they spelled it with 2 "i"s. They said it looked like 2 people playing side-by-side. I guess they believe you play "better together".

In Dec., our series was called iShine. We pointed out that God is light, therefore He shines because that's what light does. What follows is since Jesus told me that I (as His follower) am the "Light of the world", I shine too. Because that's what light does. Light doesn't have to try to shine. It just shines. The same is true for Christ-followers. I have His light in me so I shine.

Like Nintendo, shining our light is for everyone who is a Christ-follower. You don't have to have a special gift, or be walking perfectly with God to shine. It's what we do!

And like Nintendo, we believe we are better together, side-by-side in the trenches with other Christ-followers. Wii need each other.

In Jan. we want to drill down a little more and, like scripture does, apply this to the Church. (& GCF) Because we are the "Light of the world", we (Wii) shine. That's what we do because that's what light does.

So you may not play video games or go for goofy sermon series titles. But, as a Christ-follower, you can at least agree that Jesus has a word for our church family to hear, meditate on, and apply.

In the words of former NFL coach Tony Dungy, "Let's do what we do." Well, that's shine. Together. That's what we do as lights-of-the-world.

Because Wii truly are better together!
